Google Photos is bringing your favorite faces forward

by · Android Police

Soon after testing a new game-changing face editing feature, Google Photos is now making it easier for you to be able to find and organize all the faces in your gallery.

The tech giant is essentially bringing Face Groups into classic search and Ask Photos, making it easier for users to be able to find photos and videos of important people and pets in their lives.

It's worth noting that the app isn't gaining a new feature. Google Photos has long used Face Groups to bundle similar faces together. Said collections were often tucked away. With today's development, Google is bringing the same Face Groups directly into the search workflow (via Android Authority).

"With this update, you can locate your top face groups and find the photos that you’re looking for more easily," wrote the tech giant, adding that the upgrade isn't only making its way to Android, it's also rolling out on iOS and iPadOS.

The change doesn't come as a complete surprise. Hints about it appeared in a beta build all the way back in July. It's just been so long since, the feature had essentially slipped off everyone's radar.

It's worth noting that you can only see the faces shortcut when the Face Groups feature is enabled. To turn on Face Groups, head to the Google Photos app > your profile from the top right > Settings > Privacy > Turn Face Groups on.

In the "Search" or "Ask" tab:

  • To go to the page of one of your top people or pets: Tap on their face.
  • To find pages of other people or pets: Tap More (3 dots).

The revamped appearance hasn't rolled out to me on Android or iOS yet. Is it available to you yet? Let us know in the comments below.
