'We need to start winning' – Jordan Ayew calls for positive results to restore Black Stars pride
· GhanaSoccernetBlack Stars captain Jordan Ayew has declared that Ghana must start winning again to restore the good feelings that once surrounded the national team.
Speaking to GFA media, Ayew reflected on the highs of his early days with the Black Stars and admitted that he wants to recapture that emotion, which can only come through victories.
"Obviously, the Black Stars have given me a lot. A lot, in the sense where I have had a lot of good moments in the Black Stars, especially in my early days. I want to get that feeling back, and to get that feeling back is only by winning. So we need to start winning," Ayew said.
He acknowledged that qualification for the 2026 World Cup brought back some of that feeling, but he believes there is more on the horizon.
"I had that feeling a little bit when we qualified for the World Cup, but I know there's more to come. There's something coming. There's something on the way. So I know if we keep on pushing, we will be rewarded because we've suffered in the last two, three, four years. It's not been easy with Ghanaians."
The Black Stars captain also addressed the criticism players have faced, calling for understanding from supporters.
"You get frustrated, insulting this, insulting that, but you have to understand that we are human beings. Today can be good; tomorrow cannot be the same. Players have emotions. They have families. Sometimes you need to put yourself in our shoes."
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. The Black Stars open their campaign against Panama on June 17. For Ayew, the message is clear: winning is the only way forward.
