Basake Holy Stars new coach Johnson Smith has promised to do more following a flying start to his reign at the club.

The Porcupine Warriors unbeaten run in the Ghana Premier League came to an end on Wednesday after succumbing to a 2-1 defeat to Holy Stars at the AAKII Arena.

Smith, who joined Holy Stars on the eve of Kotoko’s clash masterminded to snatch maximum points on home turf, signaling a strong start to his stint at the club.

“This is just the beginning” he said after ending Asante Kotoko’s unbeaten Ghana Premier League run. “I don’t have to talk much. This is my first match so I don’t have to brag too much”

Four minutes after the restart, Holy Stars went ahead through Richmond Somuah, who finished confidently to ignite the home crowd.

Kotoko responded almost immediately. Kwame Poku struck in the 53rd minute to restore parity and give the visitors renewed momentum in their push for a comeback win.

Despite sustained pressure from Kotoko, Holy Stars held firm and delivered a late blow. Prince Tweneboah scored two minutes into added time to secure a dramatic victory and all three points for the hosts.

The win lifts Holy Stars to nine points, boosting their hopes of escaping the relegation zone. Kotoko remain fourth, three points behind the top spot, missing a valuable chance to close the gap.
