ILM Recreates STAR WARS’ Most Iconic Space Battle With Gingerbread and Frosting in Animated Video
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantIndustrial Light and Magic has delivered one of the coolest holiday treats with an animated gingerbread re-creation of the iconic “Destroying the Death Star” sequence from Star Wars IV: A New Hope.
The short plays side by side with the original Battle of Yavin footage, mirroring the timing and shots while swapping starfighters and Imperial tech for frosted cookies, candy panels, and baked chaos.
The result is a clever and surprisingly impressive tribute that still carries the tension of the scene fans know by heart, just with a lot more sugar involved. In this playful remix,
“Luke Skywalker faces his greatest challenge yet as he dives into the trench run to stop cookie Darth Vader and the Gingerbread Empire”, proving once again that even in dessert form, this moment from A New Hope still hits just right.
