Nurse found dead at Plymouth petrol station

An inquest has identified a woman who died at a petrol station in Plymouth after suffering a medical episode.

The passing of 31-year-old Grace Margaret Davies was recorded at a public hearing on November 20 by area coroner Alison Longhorn at Exeter County Hall, now the main coroner's court for Devon, Plymouth and Torbay.

Ms Longhorn stated that Grace was born in Plymouth and resided at a property in Thornbury Park Avenue, Plymouth. Her place of death was recorded as the Esso garage in Forder Valley Road on September 10, 2024. At the time of her passing she was a nurse by occupation.

Ms Longhorn said the circumstances surrounding Grace's death on that day was that she was found "unresponsive in her car". Police and paramedics from the South Western Ambulance Service were called to the scene, but despite the best efforts of paramedics, Grace was formally pronounced deceased.

At the time of the incident PlymouthLive reported witnesses who said they saw a large number of emergency services personnel at the petrol station on the morning of September 10.

The station was cordoned off and police later confirmed they were called to the scene at 7.45am that morning where paramedics were already dealing with what was deemed a suspected medical episode.

The court heard that there were no suspicious circumstances. Ms Longhorn added that on the current medical evidence "the cause of death is drug misuse".

Ms Longhorn adjourned the hearing and a full inquest will take place at a later date.

Plymouth City Council has previously confirmed that any family or friends who wishes to attend the full inquest can request for it to be held at Plymouth's Coroner's Court rather than be forced to travel to the Exeter venue.
