NDLEA intensifies fight against illicit drugs with new outpost in Ogun border town

by · Daily Post

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has intensified its fight against illicit drugs with the opening of a new outpost in Olorunda, a border community in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The facility was commissioned on Tuesday under the leadership of the Ogun State Commander, Commander Tijjani Rabe.

The office was provided and renovated by the Orunda of Olorunda, Oba Olusegun Phillips-Ogunsola, to strengthen the command’s operational presence and deepen community engagement in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.

The development followed growing concerns among residents and stakeholders over the exposure of young people, particularly school-age children, to illicit drugs and other dangerous substances.

Speaking during the handover, Oba Phillips-Ogunsola said the initiative was driven by his strong passion for the anti-drug campaign and the need to protect the community from the harmful effects of illicit drugs.

The monarch commended the NDLEA for its commitment and dedication, saying its presence would help reduce the sale, supply and distribution of illicit drugs and serve as a deterrent to peddlers.

He noted that Olorunda’s location as a border community made it imperative to strengthen security and drug-control measures.

In his remarks, Commander Rabe described the provision of the facility as a significant demonstration of community ownership and support for drug law enforcement.

Rabe noted that border routes are often exploited by criminal elements to move illicit substances, adding that the new outpost would enable the agency to respond more effectively to drug-related activities.

He pledged the command’s renewed commitment to sustaining operations in the community and protecting residents from the consequences of drug abuse.

The commander stressed that the fight against illicit drugs could not be won by the NDLEA alone, calling for collaboration, timely information sharing and coordinated action among security agencies, traditional institutions and members of the public.

He disclosed that officers had already been deployed to commence operations in the area and charged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and discipline.

Stakeholders in Olorunda welcomed the development, saying it would help protect the education, health and future of children in the community and neighbouring towns.
