Kebbi: Gov Idris mourns death of two traditional leaders

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has mourned the death of two traditional leaders in the Gwandu Emirate, Alhaji Muhammad Zayyanu Haruna Rasheed, also known as Sarkin Gabas, and Alhaji Abubakar Atiku Mohammed, mni, District Head of Diggi and Dangaladiman Diggi.

The governor expressed his condolences in a message issued on Saturday, describing the deaths of the two traditional leaders within a short period as painful losses to their communities and the Gwandu Emirate.

Idris said the deceased contributed to the peace, unity and development of their respective communities through their roles as traditional leaders.

DAILY POST reports that Rasheed, the District Head of Gwandu, died on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, after a prolonged illness.

The death of Rasheed was followed by that of Mohammed, the District Head of Diggi and Dangaladiman Diggi, within a short interval.

The governor said the deaths had created a vacuum in the Gwandu Emirate and extended his condolences to the Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammad Iliyasu Bashar, the families of the deceased, the people of Gwandu and Diggi, and the entire emirate.
