The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of a College of Medical Sciences at Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi.

The university was established in 2002 by the Adamawa State Government.

A panel of the NUC briefed the Adamawa State Government on Thursday on its findings after inspecting facilities in and around the university.

The leader of the panel, Professor Auwal Abubakar, expressed satisfaction with the available facilities.

He, however, called for more manpower for the proposed departments of the college.

The Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, who received the NUC panel, assured of the government’s continued support for the realisation of the university’s set goals, including the planned medical college.

She said this is especially so as the health sector remains a top priority of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

“The establishment of the medical college and establishment of its teaching hospital will further expand the health delivery for the citizens,” the deputy governor noted.

DAILY POST reports that the existing Specialist Hospital, Yola, is being considered for expansion and upgrading as the teaching hospital for the ADSU Medical College.
