Date for MRB exams for posts of doctor advanced to Jan. 5, says Health Minister
Appointment order for nurses who underwent counselling will be distributed on Dec 2
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduThe Medical Recruitment Board exam for posts of doctors has been advanced to January 5, 2025, Health Minister M. Subramanian announced on Friday. The Health Department had identified 2,553 upcoming vacancies for which 23,971 candidates had applied. Initially the exam was to be held on January 27, the minister said.
As many as 1,021 doctors’ posts were filled in the past six months. The delay in appointments were owing to litigations pending in the court, Mr. Subramanian explained.
In government medical colleges under the Directorate of Medical Education, 296 persons were promoted as associate professors. In 2024-25, as many as 110 assistant professors from 40 departments were promoted as associate professors. Four assistant directors in the Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services were promoted as associate directors.
The Minister further said through counselling on November 14 and 15, 1,200 nurses under consolidated pay were absorbed into the health department and 940 nurses, who were appointed during the COVID-19 pandemic, had been appointed on consolidated salary. On Dec 2, appointment orders to 2,140 nurses will be distributed, the minister said.
The Health Department had appointed 37,000 healthcare workers, including doctors and nurses, he said, adding that on Friday, 1,196 nurses, appointed on consolidated salaries, were appointed following transfer counselling held on Nov. 27 and 28.
MRB has taken steps to conduct exams to fill the vacancies for the post of health inspectors. We have got 1,066 applications, he added.
Northeast monsoon
The Health Department launched medical camps in 1,000 locations on Nov 14 and 15 in which 26.08 lakh persons had benefited, the minister said. So far, 14,665 persons were identified as having fever; and 91,556 were diagnosed with cough and cold, Mr. Subrmanian informed the media.
