Bharathidasan University Syndicate meeting accepts staff body’s petition on CAS benefits

A request by the Welfare Association – Bharathidasan University (WABU) on expediting the promotions and monetary benefits under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) was accepted at a Syndicate meeting of the varsity on Wednesday.

The resolution, issued by WABU president R. Sakthivel on November 26, had claimed that CAS promotions were not being conducted as per the norms of the University Grants Commission, and hence had delayed the promotion of academic staff from professor to senior professor positions.

When contacted, R. Kalidasan, BDU registrar in-charge, told The Hindu that the request had been accepted at the Syndicate meeting on Wednesday. “CAS is called for periodically and is in place at the university. At present, for the years 2022 and 2023, we have given CAS benefits to 63 staff. Those who have not received their dues, can approach a separate grievance cell to register their complaints.”

Mr. Kalidasan said that the benefits due to some senior professor appointees had been withheld in the recent past due to procedural reasons but had subsequently been approved for payment. “We will be conducting the CAS process and the grievance cell simultaneously in the near future. Fresh payments will be made only after the preceding process has concluded,” he said.
