Recognised street vendors urged to start operation from vending zone
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduRecognised street vendors, who have identity cards issued by Mangaluru City Corporation, should forthwith start operating from stalls in the vending zone in Hampankatta without falling prey to rumours that stalls lack basic facilities, said Dakshina Kannada Beedibadi Vyaparastara Ksheyobhivrudhi Sangha.
In a statement on Saturday, sangha president Mohammed Mustafah and General Secretary Harish Poojary said the new vending zone in Hampankatta was inaugurated on December 23 and some vendors have already started operating from the new stalls. Rumours were being spread that these stalls lacked basic facilities and vendors were being called for a protest on Monday.
Mr. Mustafah said vendors should not fall prey to such rumours and should start operations from allotted stalls. In case of any problems in the operation, vendors should approach the sangha and the MCC for resolution. The vendors should not stay away from the stalls and force the MCC to cancel the allotment and identity card, he said.
