MP demands upgradation of ESIC hospital
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduKodikunnil Suresh, MP, has urged the Union government to prioritise the upgradation of the Ezhukone ESIC Ayurveda Hospital in Kollam to address the region’s growing health-care and educational needs.
Raising the issue under Rule 377 in the Lok Sabha recently, he emphasised the urgent necessity of transforming the ESIC Hospital into a 250-bed super-specialty allopathic hospital to meet the increasing demand for advanced medical care among insured workers and their families.
Mr. Suresh also highlighted the importance of reinstating the previously sanctioned dentistry and pharmacy courses to support health-care education and skill development. He stressed the potential of the existing ayurveda hospital and the need to upgrade it into a full-fledged ayurveda medical college, which would not only promote traditional medicine but also enhance educational and research opportunities in ayurveda. He said that these initiatives would significantly improve health-care services, boost health-care education, and create employment opportunities for the people of Kollam and the surrounding areas. He called on the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of AYUSH to take immediate steps to implement these critical proposals.
