Greater Manchester primary school forced to close amid ongoing issue
by Ashlie Blakey · Manchester Evening NewsA primary school in Tameside has been forced to close today amid an ongoing issue in the area.
Waterloo Primary, on Worthington Street in Ashton-under-Lyne, is shut today (Tuesday) due to a problem with water supply in the area. The headteacher of the school apologised as she said 'we can't keep children and staff safe' without running water.
In a post on the school's Facebook page, Mrs Turner said: "Good morning, Unfortunately, SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED TODAY. This is due to a problem with the WATER SUPPLY in the OL7 area.

"United Utilities are aware of the problem but cannot provide a time when it will be resolved. Obviously, with no water in school we can't keep children and staff safe as there is no way of flushing the toilets, washing hands, cooking lunch and providing drinks!
"I'm so sorry about the inconvenience and will keep you updated as I hear anything. Mrs Turner."
According to the United Utilities website, a problem with no water/poor pressure in the OL7 postcode area was first reported at around 5am this morning. "We're investigating a problem in your area, which may mean you have no water, or low water pressure", the water supplier said.
In an update posted at 9.20am on the website, United Utilities said the cause of the problem had been found and that repair works would begin shortly. The update said: "Just to let you know, we’ve found the cause of no water or low pressure to be a burst in your area.
"Now that we’ve identified the cause of the problem, our team will assess the issue and start the repair work shortly. Thank you for your patience."
