Flood warning issued between Radcliffe and Bury as Storm Bert batters Greater Manchester

While Storm Bert continues to punish the UK with snow, high winds and heavy rainfall forecast, several flood warnings have been issued for areas of Greater Manchester.

Six areas of Greater Manchester are subject to flood warnings and expected to experience flooding, with three more issued with flood alerts for possible flooding.

The Environment Agency's latest update now includes a flood warning between Radcliffe and Bury, with flooding now expected along the River Irwell from Buckley Wells to Radcliffe.

The agency says anyone living in those areas to start acting on your flood plan if you have one. While urging those affected to take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.

High river levels are expected to cause flooding and will peak 17:00-18:00 hours, with high water until Sunday morning, November 24.

Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the River Irwell, with low lying land and roads expected to be most affected, particularly around Pioneer Mills, Close Park and Parkside Close.

Flood warning areas include the DHL Distribution Centre, the United Utilities Sewage Works, Pioneer Mills, and Church Street West.

The latest updates from the Environment Agency show the River Irwell's water level at Bury Ground was 1.85 metres. Property flooding is possible when it goes above 1.68 metres.

While the River Irwell level at Pioneer Mills was 4.28 metres. Property flooding is possible when it goes above 3.80 metres.
