Greater Manchester prison left with no running water for hours

A Greater Manchester prison was left with no running water for hours. The issue arose at HMP Buckley Hall in Rochdale yesterday evening.

A woman who has been in contact with one prisoner told the Manchester Evening News they had been locked in their cell with no flushing toilet and unable to make themselves a drink.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) confirmed there was a "problem with the water supply" that started at 8pm yesterday evening but that it had now been restored.. They said all prisoners were given bottled water during the outage.

However, the woman said the prison she had spoken to had only been given bottled water shortly before midday. And she said there had been a further outage this evening. The MOJ have been contacted for an update.
