by Zahra Khaliq · The MirrorA huge sinkhole has opened up at a canal in Shropshire, sparking a major incident.
Shocking photos show two narrowboats collapsing into a section of canal in the Chemistry area of Whitchurch, while a third boat sits on the edge of a steep drop. Water has also drained from the area completely. Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews are at the scene responding to a landslip and have urged members of the public to avoid the area.
"For everyone's safety, members of the public are kindly asked to remain away from the affected area, including Whitchurch Marina, while crews and partners manage the incident," the force said.
Emergency services have launched a multi-agency response, co-ordinated through the Shropshire Tactical Co-ordination Group (TCG).
There are currently no reports of any injuries, and locals are being assisted by the fire service, according to West Mercia Police.
