Stereophonics and 86TVs drummer Jamie Morrison has given a health update from his hospital bed after falling in moments before he was set to take to the stage
by Mia O'Hare · The MirrorDrummer Jamie Morrison has shared a health update to his fans after falling ill moments before he was due on stage.
The Stereophonics star, 41, was due to perform at Rescue Rooms in Nottingham on Monday night with his other band 86TVs. The group issued a statement to their fans just before the show was due to start as they revealed Jamie had been rushed to hospital. Jamie has since posted a photo from his hospital bed as he thanked his followers for their support.
He wrote: "It's been the craziest couple of days of my life, and certainly not the crazy I am used to. I want to apologise to anyone who bought tickets, I will make this up to you in the ferocity of my vibrations when we return, I promise you the only reason I am currently not in my 'happy place' with you all is because the doctor's were adamant I am a maniac for even considering this to be an option.
"I want say to Mickey Callisto, I am going to miss hearing you singing your songs before we play, please let's do this again. Fiona / Cheery this means you too. I want to say to Hugo, Felix and Will, I love you, Hugo took me to the hospital with Tall Matt our Sound Engineer who drove to the hozzy at Lewis Hamilton level speeds and the fact Felix was already there was surreal.
"A memory I will never forget is Hugo, Felix and I having a 3/4 band meeting immersed in the organised chaos of the hospital hallway where we decided how to make our next album, the image of this discussion as I lay in the hospital bed was and still is hilarious to me, I will never forget it."
He continued: "Most importantly I need to give my gratitude to the NHS in Nottingham, I arrived in a pain I never knew existed with pure terrorfication running through me. My Doctor's / Nurses, Rachel, lan, Maz, Mohamed, Chelsea and Maria, you soothed my fears in your professionalism and have helped me on to the road back to health, we are all on a first name basis now so don't be strangers.
"I have seen you work, I want you now to come and see me work, so hit me up It's been a humbling experience folks, I am going to make a full recovery and will spend this time being grateful and acknowledging how lucky I am to be in the same orbit as all of the people mentioned above."
Jamie concluded: "Health comes first, but I do feel a sense of responsibility to make this up to you, so when I am able, I will. It will be made up in positive energy, performance and pure vibes Jamie x." On Tuesday, 86TVs issued a statement that read: "We had quite a dramatic day yesterday when, minutes before doors opened in Nottingham, Jamie was rushed into hospital. He is still in there and has been strongly advised by doctors to not attempt to do the shows this week.
“We are all heartbroken about this – the shows on this run really have been our best ever – but obviously health comes first. Please send your love and get wells to one of the best to ever do it.” They added: “Huge apologies to anyone who has made plans for these shows, especially with long distance travel. We know there are a number of you that have had plans around this for a long time and were planning on sending off this record with us this week.”
The band is made up of members of The Maccabees' Hugo and Felix White and their brother Will as well as Jamie. They were nearing the end of their 2024 tour and had remaining dates scheduled for Manchester, Bristol, London, Cambridge and Leeds. Their tour was due to end on December 1, having started on November 15 in Germany.
