Court documents share new details of Liam Payne's death from whiskey binge to heartbreaking last texts
One Direction star Liam Payne tragically died after falling from a third floor balcony at a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, last month - and details around his death continue to emerge
by Seamus Duff · The MirrorNew details around the death of Liam Payne have been released by a shock new report that offers a tragic timeline of the star's final hours.
The music world was shocked last month when news emerged that One Direction star Payne had fallen to his death from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was staying at the CasaSur Hotel and was just 31 at the time of his death - leaving behind his seven-year-old son, Bear.
Argentinian authorities have been investigating the circumstances around Payne's death - and details of their findings have emerged in the weeks since his tragic passing. A new report has suggested Payne's father, Geoff, 66, had been insistent that the singer not be left alone - while authorities have questioned if the star's friend, Roger Nores, "abandoned" the star before his death and notes that he stayed at a separate hotel from the One Direction star.
It is also claimed the Little Things singer ordered a number of bottles of whiskey hours before his tragic fall, staff at the CasaSur Hotel feared he might try to leave his room via his third floor balcony, and that the star asked some staff for "grams", implying he wanted to buy drugs. Staff have also reportedly stated that they noted that Payne was "visibly drunk" before his death.
A report by TMZ, based on court documents they claim to have witnessed, has suggested that Argentina's national prosecutors have reviewed the details of Payne's death and allegedly found that Payne's friend Nores was at his hotel on the day of his death, but left the building before his fatal fall. Their documents outline that issues of "abandonment" are not subject to national laws and the document recommends the case be referred to local prosecutors.
The outlet's report states: "The judge told national prosecutors they had no jurisdiction to pursue abandonment. So far, there have been no charges filed by local prosecutors. The national prosecutors tried appealing the judge's ruling, but the appeal was rejected."
TMZ's report offers a timeline of the hours before Payne's death - and begins by claiming Nores offered to be Payne's carer from May 2024. They claim the court documents show: "Liam's father said it was critical that Liam always stayed busy and was never alone. Liam's dad said he became alarmed in September after his son fired a bodyguard who was trying to stop him from doing drugs."
It is claimed that on Tuesday 25 October at 10pm, Payne ordered 4 bottles of whiskey to his room at the CasaSur Hotel in Argentina - and then ordered 5 more bottles at 6:36am on Wednesday 26 October, which was the day he died. It is claimed at 9:32am Payne texted Nores: "Can you get 6 grams?" - implying he wanted to buy drugs. It is suggested at 2pm, Payne asked an unspecified member of hotel staff: "I'm gonna need another 7 grams for today."
It is reported that at 3:45pm, Nores attended the hotel - and left at 4:04pm. During that time, at 4pm, staff noted that Payne was "visibly drunk" and at 4:25 PM Nores texted the singer, "How are you?" but Payne didn't respond. Staff called the emergency services around this time - with audio from the call revealing a staff member telling the emergency operator: "We have a guest who is intoxicated with drugs and alcohol. And, well, when he’s conscious, he’s breaking everything in the room. We need someone to be sent, please."
The operator asked: "You said under the influence of alcohol and drugs, sir?" And the staff member said: "Yes, correct. And we need someone to be sent urgently because, well… I don’t know if the guest’s life is at risk. He’s in a room that has… that has a balcony. We’re a little afraid that he’ll do something that puts him.." The operator then asked if the guest was a permanent guest, and the member of staff replied: "No, no, he’s only been here for two or three days."
TMZ's report concludes by suggesting Liam attempted to leave his hotel room by preparing to jump from his third floor balcony down to the balcony on the second floor below but then fell to his death during this attempt. The Mirror has contacted a representative of Payne's estate for comment.
