A fascinating letter in English signed with the holy signature of the Admor Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the seventh Rebbe in the Lubavitch dynasty, whose influence extended to the entire world. SEE ON ZAIDY AUCTION.

In his letter, the Rebbe thanks Rabbi Aryeh Carmell, a close disciple of Rabbi Eliyahu Eliezer Dessler and an editor of his sefer Michtav M’Eliyahu, for sending him his sefer ‘Challenge, ‘ published that same year, which addresses both the conflict and the compatibility between Torah and science from philosophical, ethical, and scientific perspectives.

The Rebbe writes that he warmly recommends to the above-mentioned author to place emphasis on “the essential aspect of Yiddishkeit, ”for it represents the actual fulfillment of the practical mitzvos, thereby transforming the philosophical discussion from theory into reality, into the realm of daily life.”

The Rebbe then notes the Rambam’s approach, that ideas are derived from reality, and that this is also the accepted view in modern science, where a scientific theory is accepted based on the degree to which it conforms to reality.

At the end of his letter, the Rebbe blesses the recipient with a Kesivah Vechasima Tova.

A remarkable letter that illustrates the Rebbe’s approach in bridging Torah and science precisely by means of fervent devotion to mitzvah observance.

Brooklyn, Rosh Chodesh Elul 1976. Typewritten letter, in English, with the Rebbe’s signature in English and several handwritten corrections.
