History’s Heroes: Noach – Rainbow Rain
Welcome to the new series from the Jewish Children's Museum in conjunction with COLlive: “History’s Heroes,” where we learn about our favorite Jewish Heroes and craft, paint, or experiment, along the way! This week: Noach - Rainbow Rain.
by COLlive Editor · COLliveHi Boys and Girls! Welcome back “History’s Heroes” Where we learn about our favorite Jewish Heroes and craft, paint, or experiment, along the way!
Highlight: Noach
Noach’s story tells of his family’s survival in the Teivah during the Mabul, leading to a more moral society. His name, from the Hebrew for “to rest,” signifies his mission to ease labor through his invention of plowing tools. Though considered a Tzadik only in his generation, he mirrored the qualities of future Tzadikim like Avraham and Moshe. Like Avraham, who stood firm in his belief in one G-d, Noach resisted the immorality of his time, inspiring us to maintain our values amidst adversity.
Get ready for this week’s “Rainbow Rain” experiment! After the Flood, Hashem showed Noach the rainbow, symbolizing future redemption, as stated in the Zohar (I:72b). The clouds refined themselves to allow sunlight to create rainbows, hinting at a more refined world with the coming of Moshiach. In this experiment, shaving cream acts as a cloud, while colorful water represents rain. The colorful water is heavier than shaving cream, making it sink and create a beautiful effect. Enjoy your rainbow rain! Feel free to empty the container and repeat the experiment!
