Wet Christmas: Sibuti MP checks on flood-hit village in constituency
by philip kiew · Borneo Post OnlineMIRI (Dec 26): Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni ended his Christmas Day visits in his Sibuti constituency with a visit to flood-affected Kampung Bulau, where the water level was at waist-high.
In a Facebook post today, Lukanisman said he hoped the electricity supply to the village, as well as two other flood-hit villages, would be restored soon.
“The power supply to the villages of Mutap, Sinop and Bulau were cut off due to a fallen pole, and repair works are underway.
“Food supplies have been distributed by the Welfare office, and the Civil Defence Force and Subis district office are monitoring the situation,” said the Sibuti MP.
The flood at Kampung Bulau was at its highest level on Christmas Eve following days of heavy rain.
A netizen posted on Facebook that the village’s community hall was nearly fully submerged at about 6pm that day.
Meanwhile, Lukanisman said he hoped the improved weather since Christmas would continue in the coming days to allow the flood to subside.
“During the floods, the residents of Kampung Bulau had to park their vehicles on higher ground a distance away from their village.
“They are worried about the safety of their vehicles, so I pray that the good weather continues so that Kampung Bulau and the other affected areas can recover from the floods,” he said.
