New Lawas Hospital set to enhance healthcare services for local community, says Deputy Premier

MIRI (Oct 5): The long-awaited new Lawas Hospital, expected to be completed in June next year, will significantly improve the healthcare services for the community, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

He stated that the new facility would alleviate the health difficulties faced by Lawas patients who need dialysis and other medical treatments.

“Currently, patients in the area are referred to either Kota Kinabalu Hospital in Sabah or Miri Hospital due to inadequate healthcare facilities at the existing hospital.

“The new hospital is something we have all been waiting for. Once completed, and with the support of medical specialists, the facility will undoubtedly bring much-needed convenience to the community,” he said.

Awang Tengah said this when met by reporters after officiating at the Bukit Mas Day 2024 at Limbang Water Amphitheatre today.

He added that the hospital will feature comprehensive facilities and will be upgraded to a minor specialist hospital, increasing the number of medical personnel and availability of healthcare services in Lawas.

On a separate matter, he said that the Sarawak government has a strategic plan to develop the area near Limbang airport for recreational and tourism purposes, taking advantage of its strategic location near Brunei’s bay.

“This location is strategic as it has a stunning view of the Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Bridge, the longest bridge in Southeast Asia,” he added.

Among those present were Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail; Batu Danau assemblyman Dato Paulus Palu Gumbang; a Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Awang Jinal Abidin Dato Pengiran Jawa; and Limbang Resident Yunus Tambi.
