Miri man fined RM1,800 for drug abuse
by jenifer laeng · Borneo Post OnlineMIRI (Nov 26): The Magistrates’ Court here today fined a man RM1,800 in default two months in jail for drug abuse four years ago.
Magistrate Sandy Yvette Freddy imposed the fine on Tiong Ting Hui of Jalan Riam Lembah Hijau after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which is punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.
The Section carries a jail sentence of up to two years, or a fine not exceeding RM5,000, and immediate supervision for a period not exceeding three years, upon conviction.
The court also ordered Tiong to undergo supervision for two years.
According to the facts of the case, Tiong tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, which are listed in the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, at the Miri District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department around 3pm on Feb 20, 2020.
Insp Mudzilawati Abdul Rahman prosecuted the case, while Tiong was unrepresented by legal counsel.
