KUCHING (Jan 24): A RM7 million alternative pipeline project to resolve prolonged water supply disruptions in the Jagoi, Bau area is expected to be completed within about five months, ahead of the Gawai celebration.

Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol said the project, implemented by the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), would be subject to work progress and weather conditions.

@The project aims to address recurring supply disruptions and persistently low water pressure that have affected residents in Jagoi.

“I support JBALB’s efforts and will continue to monitor the project’s implementation, while ensuring temporary assistance, including the provision of water tanks, continues until the supply is fully restored.

“The welfare of the people of Jagoi remains our top priority,” said the federal Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports and Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak vice-chairman in a statement.

Mordi said as an interim measure, clean water tankers had been mobilised using the Mas Gading parliamentary allocation to ensure that the residents would continue to have access to water while the project was underway.

He said the issue was identified through residents’ complaints and community monitoring, with persistently low water pressure indicating that the existing system is no longer adequate and requires comprehensive intervention.

He added that scheduled water deliveries would also be sent directly to affected villages to ensure each household receives an adequate supply.

“Water tankers have been mobilised immediately to the Jagoi, Bau area following ongoing disruptions and low water pressure affecting residents in Kampung Stass, Kampung St Mark Stass and Kampung Krawong Stass.

“Clean water supply is a basic necessity, and this issue cannot be allowed to continue,” he said.
