Rep suggests gazetting of Baram’s Three Sisters Waterfall as nature park, reserve
by Jude Toyat · Borneo Post OnlineKUCHING (Nov 15): The Three Sisters Waterfall in Baram should be gazetted as a new nature park or reserve, said Telang Usan assemblyman Dato Dennis Ngau.
Describing the site as ‘God’s gift of natural beauty’, Dennis noted that the waterfall, situated between Long Beku and Long San in Ulu Baram, has become a popular destination for nature lovers.
Its pristine environment and unique features set it apart from other attractions in Malaysia, he said.
“The uniqueness of this waterfall is where three different falls drop into one big pool, making one feel as if one is at a Hollywood movie site,” he said when debating the 2025 state budget at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly today.
Urging the authorities to secure and gazette the site into a new nature park or reserve, he also proposed the inclusion of basic visitor facilities such as access roads, rest houses, toilets, walking paths and safety signboards.
“This is a potential goldmine to the locals especially,” he added, highlighting the economic benefits that could arise from ecotourism development.
According to the Sarawak Tourism Board website, the waterfall is called ‘Three Sisters’ because of three distinctive cascading falls flowing side by side.
It said the trek to the falls offers a rugged jungle experience with river crossings and challenging terrain.
Visitors are advised to hire a local guide from Long San to navigate the trail to the falls.
