KUCHING (Oct 23): The Borneo International Water and Wastewater Exhibition and Conference (BIWWEC) 2024 officially opened today at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), bringing together global leaders, industry experts and innovators to tackle critical challenges in water and wastewater management.

The three-day event is poised to be a major platform for advancing sustainable water solutions in Southeast Asia, with over 1,000 registered delegates in attendance.

Officiating the opening ceremony was Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Also present were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian as well as Utility and Telecommunication Minister Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi and his deputies Datuk Liwan Lagang and Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

BIWWEC organising chairperson Rodziah Mohamad said the conference serves as a vital platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration as delegates come together to address some of the most pressing water and wastewater challenges facing the world.

“BIWWEC 2024 promises to be an exciting hub for exploring innovative technologies and sustainable solutions in water management.

“Furthermore, this year’s conference is unique as alongside BIWWEC, we collocate holding the Sarawak Utility and Telecommunication Conference, and the Malaysian Water Industry Human Resource Conference, to create a seamless synergy for water-related industry partners, stakeholders, and exhibitors to be able to attend all events under one roof,” she said in her welcoming speech.

Themed ‘Sustainable Solutions for Water Security,’ BIWWEC promotes innovative strategies and cutting-edge technologies to address pressing issues such as water scarcity, climate change, and aging infrastructure.

The conference offers a dynamic programme, featuring keynote speeches, technical presentations, panel discussions, and an expansive exhibition showcasing the latest advancements in water and wastewater treatment.

“We are honoured to have an exceptional lineup of speakers, including world-renowned experts like Prof Dr Kala Vairavamoorthy from the International Water Association, and Dr Ampai Harakunarak, a leading authority in environmental management.

“Their insights and expertise will inspire new ways to tackle water scarcity, climate change, and urban water challenges,” said Rodziah.

A Tech Talk will be held tomorrow where experts from various sectors will be presenting the latest research, innovations, and best practices to address water resource management, wastewater treatment, and climate adaptation.

Industry leaders and policymakers will explore key topics, including regulatory frameworks, public-private partnerships, and emerging trends in water sustainability.

Over 56 exhibitors from around the world are also showcasing the latest technologies, products, and services in water and wastewater management.
