MIRI (Dec 14): A healthy lifestyle and strong collaboration between schools, parents, and the community are essential to nurturing well-balanced future generations, said Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.

Speaking at the officiating ceremony of the PTA SK Tudan Zumbathon 2025 on Saturday, Lee emphasised that programmes promoting physical fitness play a vital role in cultivating positive habits among students and parents alike.

“Good health is the foundation for the development of individuals who are balanced physically, emotionally and mentally,” he said.

“Initiatives such as this Zumbathon are timely and relevant in encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle.”

Lee added that beyond health benefits, community-based programmes help strengthen ties between schools, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTA), parents, and the surrounding community.

“This spirit of cooperation must continue to be nurtured for the collective well-being of all.

“Strong partnerships between schools and parents are crucial in supporting the holistic development and educational excellence of our children,” he said.

He also commended the SK Tudan PTA for the 2025/2027 session for its commitment and continuous efforts in organising high-impact programmes that benefit students.

According to Lee, education today should not focus solely on academic achievement, but must also include character building, physical well-being, and social skills.

“The Zumbathon provides a meaningful platform to support the development of students who are healthy, active and disciplined, in line with the aspirations of our national education system,” he noted.

Lee expressed hope that similar programmes would continue in the future with wider participation from the local community so that the benefits could be shared more broadly.

The event saw strong turnout from school administrators, teachers, parents, and students, reflecting strong community support for healthy living initiatives at the school level.

Also present were SK Tudan headmistress Lim Ai Geok and PTA chairperson Rebecca Bedindang.
