Surge in war-wounded patients over four days-MSF

Between Tuesday, September 22, and Friday, September 25, the number of war-wounded patients received at hospitals in Korem and Alamata rose from around 180 over a 48-hour period to more than 420, the medical charity Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has said.

In northwestern Tigray, MSF said it supported the influx of patients at Suhul Hospital in the town of Shire, where more than 300 people wounded in the fighting had arrived by September 25.

In its latest humanitarian update, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) described the renewed fighting in northern Ethiopia as “very worrying” and said its teams were responding to a sharp influx of people injured in the conflict.

“Due to the current situation, activities at Alamata Hospital have now been suspended. Outreach activities have also been suspended due to the security situation, and staff were redirected to provide additional support to hospitals, where we are seeing a sharp increase in war-wounded patients,” MSF said.
