Paramount Skydance Launches New Book Publishing Imprint Two Years After Simon & Schuster Sale

by · Variety

Two years after the sale of Simon & Schusater, Paramount is getting back into the book biz with the launch of new publishing imprint, Paramount Global Publishing.

The newly created publishing arm will operate under the company’s Products & Experiences division, led by president Josh Silverman, and be overseen by head of global publishing Amy Jarashow. Jarashow and her team will focus on producing complementary publishing content inspired by its iconic portfolio of brands and franchises as well as generate new IP through the creation of original stories, per Paramount.

The launch of the new books division comes more than years after Paramount Global sold its publisher Simon & Schuster to private equity firm for $1.62 billion in October 2023. Paramount says this move back into publishing under its new Skydance leadership marks “a strategic expansion in how fans engage with the company’s revered content while also creating new opportunities to develop original IP.”

Per the company, “Paramount will oversee direct development, creation and production of the Paramount Global Publishing books, with sales and distribution into the retail market to be handled by a yet-to-be-named partner.”

Paramount says it will continue its existing licensing strategy with publishers and distributors.

Launching first in the U.S. and Canada, with plans to expand to other markets in the future, the imprint will produce print, digital and audio content that spans genres and age demographics. Paramount Global Publishing will announce its first titles at a later date.

“Stories that originate on the page have a unique power to build immersive worlds, create compelling characters and forge deeper connections with fans,” Silverman said. “With the launch of Paramount Global Publishing, we’re expanding the reach of our most beloved franchises while also introducing original stories to audiences around the world.”
