Adam Ray Sets ‘Dr. Phil Live!’ Comedy Special at Netflix, Where He’ll Interview the Real Dr. Phil (EXCLUSIVE)

by · Variety

Adam Ray is bringing his Dr. Phil parody to Netflix with a wild new special in which the comedian — dressed as the mustachioed talk show host — will come face to face with Dr. Phil himself.

Debuting on Netflix on Nov. 19, the untitled “Adam Ray’s Dr. Phil Comedy Special” will also see Ray-as-Phil interview special guests including Patton Oswalt, Jay Pharoah and “Gollum,” and get to know the audience through silly questions and games.

Ray’s “Dr. Phil Live!” had become one of the hottest tickets at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles before the comedian took it on the road across America. The show will soon expand beyond the United States.

As Dr. Phil, Ray has interviewed comedians such as Bill Burr, Whitney Cummings, Kumail Nanjiani and Bert Kreischer. He’s taken the experimental comedy format to Netflix Is a Joke Festival, various podcasts and L.A.’s Kia Forum with “Kill Tony.”

Ray is also a character actor who appeared in NBC’s “Young Rock” as Vince McMahon and Hulu’s “Pam & Tommy” as Jay Leno.
