‘The Uprising’ Trailer: Andrew Garfield Leads a Rebellion Against King Richard II in Paul Greengrass’ Historical Thriller

Focus Features has released the trailer for “The Uprising,” a new historical drama starring Andrew Garfield.

The film’s official logline reads: “Andrew Garfield stars as the legendary leader of a ferocious rebellion against the tyranny of King Richard II. As war burns across England, he forms an army of the people to face the King’s might in a fight for justice and survival.” “The Uprising” takes place in the aftermath of the Black Plague, when King Richard II was levying brutal taxes on his subjects to fund the Hundred Years’ War.

Other cast members include Jamie Bell, Stephen Dillane, Tom Hollander, Cosmo Jarvis, Thomasin McKenzie, Jonny Lee Miller, Woody Norman, Katherine Waterston and Sky Yang.

“Jason Bourne” filmmaker Paul Greengrass wrote, directed and produced “The Uprising.” Jason Blum, Gregory Goodman, Joanna Kaye, Joe Neurauter and Lars Sylvest also served as producers.

Garfield, a two-time Oscar nominee, most recently starred opposite Claire Foy in the fantasy film “The Magic Faraway Tree,” which was already released in the U.K. and hits U.S. theaters on Aug. 21. His other recent credits include “After the Hunt,” “We Live in Time,” “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “tick, tick.. BOOM!” and “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.”

Greengrass’ most recent project was “The Lost Bus,” a disaster thriller starring Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera. His other directing credits include “News of the World,” “22 July,” “Green Zone,” “Captain Phillips” and “United 93,” for which he earned a best directing Oscar nomination.

“The Uprising” hits theaters on Sept. 11. Check out the trailer below.
