Posting anonymously on the 大马一定行 Facebook page, they explained that they were due to receive new medication during an upcoming consultation, which has now been postponed because of the unexpected break.

“While the rest of the internet is celebrating this sudden ‘special holiday’, do you understand how devastating it is for patients like us who have to wait in line at government hospitals?” they wrote.
“I really didn’t want to say anything, but that day happened to be my long-awaited follow-up appointment.”
The individual highlighted the disparity between healthy citizens and those with chronic conditions.
“For healthy people, waiting a few more months might not be a big deal, but for patients who require long-term monitoring, those months are a crucial period for survival. The doctor had originally planned to change my medication at this appointment, but now, due to the holiday, I am back to square one and must wait for the next available slot.”
They also raised concerns about their current treatment, questioning whether they must continue with their old medication while waiting for a new appointment to be scheduled.
The strain on medical staff and infrastructure
The post also shed light on how government hospitals are forced to absorb these cancellations into already congested schedules.
“It’s a terrifying butterfly effect. The hundreds of outpatient appointments cancelled that day won’t just disappear into thin air; they’ll simply be pushed back, crammed into already overflowing slots,” the netizen noted.
“Behind every forced rescheduled appointment is a living, breathing person anxiously waiting! The healthcare system is different from office jobs; you cannot make up for lost time by taking a day off and working overtime tomorrow. It is already operating at its limit, and even the slightest change has an amplified impact.”
The individual concluded their post by urging the government to consider the medical consequences before announcing ad hoc public holidays.
“You all enjoy an extra day off, but in return, patients suffer months of torment and uncertainty, potentially even shortening their lifespan,” they remarked.
