It's understood the magazine's publisher, Penfield, is entering voluntary liquidation.
The publication is no longer taking new subscriptions, with a message on the phoenix.ie website saying it is "unable to offer" online or print subscriptions "at this time".
The Phoenix, which has a small number of employees, was founded in 1983 by the late journalist and publisher John Mulcahy.
It describes itself as a political and financial magazine.
It's understood no more editions of the magazine will be published after this week.
