The Mets on Friday removed struggling David Peterson from his role as sometime starter and occasional follower of an opener, putting him fully in the bullpen, and they revealed struggling Sean Manaea as the likely candidate to take Peterson’s role as sometime starter/occasional opener-follower.

They didn’t say why they were demoting Peterson and promoting Manaea. But it might be right there on the stat sheet.
Manaea’s 5.56 ERA is .01 lower than Peterson’s 5.57 mark.
