Baby almost beaten to death by other young kids in filthy apartment after moms allegedly left them to drink and do drugs
· New York PostA baby was almost beaten to death by two other young children after their moms allegedly left them locked in a filthy Texas apartment so they could go out to drink and do drugs.
Sidney Whitt, 21, and Jacqulun Morales, 29, allegedly confined the 2-month-old baby in the bedroom of a fly-infested apartment littered with rat feces with two children, ages 6 and 4, while the women went to a hotel to drink and do drugs with a man, according to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office.
While they were gone, the young children allegedly horrifically abused the baby — tossing it around and stomping on its head until it suffered a brain bleed and started having seizures.
The children were left in the care of Morales’ sister, Shelby Munoz, 18, who allegedly told detectives she knew what was happening but didn’t believe their safety was her responsibility because the kids “were not hers,” according to KLTV. Munoz was charged along with Whitt and Morales.
When the women returned to the apartment, they allegedly noticed the child’s injuries but didn’t seek medical attention until the next day.
The sheriff’s office told the outlet that upon arrival at the hospital, the infant was placed in a medically induced coma and placed on a ventilator.
When Child Protective Services visited the home, they found it had no air conditioning in the sweltering Texas summer heat and was “infested with flies.” The floor of the home was also “heavily littered with rat feces, diapers, and clothing,” according to the sheriff’s office.
All three women were charged with child endangerment and injury to a child and are being held on a combined $500,000 bond.
