Research has revealed that individuals over the age of 65 spend less than an hour a day conversing with others.

A study involving 1,000 adults aged 65 and above discovered that 43 per cent feel they have a limited circle of people to talk to, resulting in an average of just 58 minutes a day spent in conversation.

According to figures from OnePoll.com, one in four would appreciate more opportunities to converse with younger individuals, and 22 per cent yearn for a more diverse group of people to interact with.

In response to these findings, Parsley Box, which commissioned the research, has launched a podcast specifically for retirees called The 'Wise Words' Podcast.

The series consists of four episodes, each features three guests and is led by 86 year old broadcaster David Hamilton.

The podcasts discuss topics that many older adults can relate to, such as maintaining friendships, cooking traditions, lifelong learning, and navigating modern technology.

Holly McComb, CEO of Parsley Box, commented: "After the age of 65, many people stop working and find their social circle reduced. But this leaves many feeling they have fewer people to talk to."

"We wanted to create something to help counteract this - something warm and engaging, like listening to old friends chatting, but in a modern format. Sixty-five is no age at all, and the survey results show they're as interested in health and wellness as they are in retirement or finance."

The study uncovered the favourite conversation topics among those over 65, include reminiscing about the good old days, discussing music and food. Along side, other popular subjects like travel, films and television.

The research also found that 24% of respondents feel engaged in a conversation when they're listening to podcasts or the radio.

Holly added: "Podcasts provide a fantastic way for older adults to stay socially connected."

"They offer a wealth of information and entertainment that can be accessed at any time, making it convenient for older individuals who may not have the same access to social events."

"Whether it's learning about new developments in health, hearing inspiring life stories, or enjoying engaging discussions on current events, podcasts are a wonderful way to keep the mind active and engaged."
