Vocational license renewal requires a comprehensive health test now – RM30 subsidised fee at 500 clinics
by Danny Tan · Paul Tan's Automotive NewsThose who want to renew their vocational license now need to undergo a comprehensive health test under the Program Pemandu Sihat dan Selamat (PSS). The fee is RM30 (Perkeso subsidises RM55) and it can be done at 500 panel clinics nationwide.
Human resources minister Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan said the health test covers a physical examination, eyesight, hearing and screening for sleep disorders such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea. The test also assesses one’s cardiovascular, respiratory and neurology health, plus an HBA1C blood test for those who need it.
“The test is not to burden drivers. Instead, it’s to detect health issues early so that treatment and intervention can be done immediately. Through this initiative, drivers only need to pay RM30, while the balance of the cost which is RM55 is covered by the Madani government via Perkeso,” he said at the PSS launch in KL yesterday, reported by Bernama.
Ramanan said that the HR ministry is looking to expand the programme to 3,000 panel clinics nationwide to allow more drivers to get the health test done. He said that PSS reflects the commitment of his ministry and the transport ministry in strengthening the road safety agenda and protect worker welfare, especially professional drivers that are the heartbeat of the country’s transport sector.
He said that last year, 115 workers died in road accidents, up from 94 in 2024. This number covers various categories of workers who depend on the roads for a living, including lorry, bus and van drivers, and motorcyclists. Of the total, lorry drivers recorded the highest deaths at 62 cases, or 21% of the total.
