Codsall Community High School grieving death of 'much-loved' teacher

by · Birmingham Live

A Midlands school has confirmed it was closed at the start of the week due to the death of a "much-loved" teacher. The shock death has left staff and students at Codsall Community High School with "deep feelings of grief".

Headteacher Simon Maxfield said the school had been made aware of that the member of staff had been "found dead unexpectedly" on Saturday morning (November 16). The tragic news prompted the South Staffordshire school to 'close to all students' on Monday, November 18, citing 'unexpected and exceptional circumstances'.

Although no details of what prompted the decision were shared at the time, some social media users left broken heart emojis beneath the post. However the school, which reopened today (Tuesday, November 19), has now explained the reasons for the closure.

Mr Maxfield said: "On the morning of Saturday 16th November, staff at Codsall Community High School were made aware that a much-loved colleague and teacher had been found dead unexpectedly. As would be expected, our community are coming to terms with deep feelings of grief and we are working to ensure appropriate support is in place for all that need it.

"As we begin to make sense of this, we would ask that the privacy for the family, staff and students is respected."
