UK motorists urged to stock one item before driving in the snow

by · Birmingham Live

With snow blanketing the West Midlands region today, motorists have been urged to ensure they have enough fuel in their tanks before going out driving. Snow has fallen on the region this morning (November 19), causing traffic delays and school closures.

Motoring experts at One Sure Insurance have revealed how driving in wintry conditions uses up more fuel. And with snow and ice causing hazardous conditions on the road, there is more chance of delays.

As a result, motorists finding themselves stuck in queues could be left in tricky situations if they have little fuel in their tanks. A spokesperson for the firm said: "Vehicles generally use more fuel in extreme weather conditions and bad weather can cause unexpected delays.

"Always ensure you have enough fuel before a journey and research where fuel stations are if travelling on an unfamiliar route." Other tips included checking and upgrading tyres if necessary, servicing vehicles, monitor brakes and drive responsibly.

A spokesperson added: "We are advising drivers to take these precautions to significantly reduce the risks associated with wet weather driving. Safety is a shared responsibility and by being more vigilant when driving in these conditions, drivers can not only protect themselves but also contribute to the overall safety of our roads."
