This iPhone feature will restart your phone every 3 days

Apple is all about security, and it proves this by launching numerous useful tools to keep its users’ data safe. As such, iOS is one of the most secure platforms that you can use. Adding to this, Apple just launched a new feature that will keep your iPhone safe when you forget that it exists. This new feature will reboot your iPhone after three days of inactivity.

We’re all used to using our phones on a daily, if not hourly, basis. Most of us just don’t give our poor phones a break, but there are people who aren’t as tech-obsessed as the rest of us. These are people who only use their phones when they need to, so there’s a chance that their phones could go unused for days. It’s hard to believe, but yes, it’s true.

This new feature will reboot your iPhone every three days

This isn’t an issue that affects too many people, but there are people who leave their phone to sit for several days. The issue is that folks who do that run the risk of having their data compromised if someone steals their phone. There are tools that bad actors can use to brute-force their way into your phone. If your iPhone is stolen, your passcode isn’t enough to protect your phone from more seasoned hackers.

Thankfully, Apple launched a new iOS feature that aims to protect you even if someone takes your phone. If you leave your phone idle without unlocking it for 72 hours, it will automatically reboot. This might sound like a minor security measure, but there’s much more going on behind the scenes.

The feature won’t only reboot your phone, it will place your phone into a BFU (Before First Unlock) state. This will encrypt your phone’s data and lock your phone’s encryption keys on its secure enclave chip. So, if someone manages to get a hold of your phone, they’ll have an extremely difficult time getting into it.

In an X.com post, we see that this feature is on the iOS 18.2 beta 2. We don’t know if Apple trickled it down to older versions.
