Bengaluru: A schoolgirl who suffered critical injuries in a brutal attack at a school in Raftadu, Andhra Pradesh, is showing significant signs of recovery while undergoing treatment at Manipal Hospital on HAL Road in Bengaluru.

The girl, who was earlier battling for her life, has regained consciousness, opened her eyes and is now able to recognise and communicate with her parents. Her improving condition has brought considerable relief to her family and the medical team treating her.

Specialists in ophthalmology and neurosurgery have examined the girl. Encouragingly, their assessments have not revealed any major neurological complications so far. Doctors are closely monitoring her condition and have planned further medical interventions.

A detailed examination of her eyes and orthopaedic surgeries are scheduled for later this week. The medical team will take further decisions based on her recovery and the results of the upcoming assessments.

Assault had left the girl critically injured

The incident had triggered widespread concern in Andhra Pradesh after a man allegedly stormed into the school and attacked the girl with a chainsaw following her rejection of his romantic advances. The brutal assault had left the student critically injured and necessitated advanced medical treatment.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been regularly receiving updates on the girl’s health. State Minister Nara Lokesh is also personally monitoring her treatment and reportedly contacting the doctors every day to enquire about her progress.

The hospital has maintained close medical supervision, with doctors keeping a constant watch on her vital parameters and overall recovery. The planned eye examination and orthopaedic procedures are expected to be important steps in her continued treatment.
