by K C Indresh Kumar · The Siasat DailyBengaluru: Hoskote is set to receive Cauvery drinking water under a proposed Rs 2,500-crore project, for which the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has granted approval.
The detailed project report (DPR) is being prepared, and the authorities are moving towards the tendering process, Hoskote MLA Sharath Bachegowda said.
Speaking to reporters, Bachegowda said the town lacked adequate natural water sources and was currently dependent largely on borewells for drinking water. To ensure a reliable supply of safe drinking water, the government had planned to bring water through the sixth phase of the Cauvery project and the Yettinahole project.
Under Cauvery Stage VI, the proposal is to bring around one TMC of water to Hoskote. In addition, water from the Yettinahole project is proposed to be stored in Hoskote’s Amani Doddakere and supplied to both urban and rural areas. The initiatives are expected to address drinking water shortages in Bengaluru Rural and other drought-prone areas, he said.
The MLA also said efforts were underway to extend Namma Metro connectivity to Hoskote. A 16.5-km metro corridor from KR Puram to Hoskote had been discussed with the Chief Minister and the State government. The DPR process had begun, and he expressed confidence that the project would find a place in the 2027-28 State Budget.
On urban infrastructure, Bachegowda said development works worth around Rs 93 crore had already been launched in Hoskote, covering roads, drains, the taluk office and hospital facilities. Another Rs 50 crore worth of works would be taken up in the coming days.
He said underground electricity cables had improved power supply quality. To strengthen street lighting after the removal of electric poles, works worth around Rs 5 crore were being undertaken across various roads in the town.
The MLA said the government would continue efforts to provide infrastructure matching Hoskote’s rapid growth and ensure its overall development.
