Basar IIIT shifts classes online amid water shortage
The Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) at Basar in Nirmal district is reportedly planning to move classes online because of a shortage of water on campus.
The institute is also planning to conduct the Semester-I midterm examinations for the 2026–27 academic year in online and offline modes instead of holding all exams on campus. The examinations were scheduled for October 26 to 28.
The campus has nearly 9,000 students and around 1,000 staff members. The water shortage has affected the institute’s ability to meet its drinking water and other requirements.
The Godavari River near Basar is the campus’s main water source. However, the river has been drying up.
Earlier, the institute extended the Dasara holidays from October 10 to 21 for students from PUC-I to Engineering fourth year. The campus was scheduled to reopen on October 22.
Online classes are planned to begin on October 26.
Doubt-clearing sessions are planned for Wednesdays and Saturdays.
