FDA recalls more than 13k bottles of blood pressure medication after quality issue

The nationwide recall affects chlorthalidone tablets after tests found they did not dissolve properly.

More than 13,000 bottles of a prescription blood pressure medication are being recalled nationwide after the tablets failed a quality test, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The recall covers chlorthalidone tablets, a medication used to treat high blood pressure and certain types of fluid retention.

Inventia Healthcare Limited, an India-based drug manufacturer, voluntarily began the recall on Sept. 3. The FDA classified it as a Class II recall on Sept. 17.

A Class II recall means use of the product could cause temporary or medically reversible health problems, although the likelihood of serious harm is considered remote, according to the FDA.
