Ghanaian family goes viral for using human waste to prepare food
by Armani Brooklyn · GHANA PAGEResidents of Bulemi in the Weija Gbawe Municipality of the Greater Accra Region have expressed deep concern over the living conditions of a family engaging in highly unusual and disturbing practices.
According to reports, a woman identified as Leticia Okine and her two children who live in an uncompleted building have been using urine and faecal matter to prepare their food.
In an interview with 3news, the woman claimed that the substances are added to meals to enhance taste and improve health.
She further alleged that stored urine is also used for other purposes, including as a body ointment and in treating drinking water.
A neighbour, Ato Quansah, who also serves as Chairman of the local Landlord’s Association, confirmed that the family has lived in the area for a long time.
He noted that the situation reportedly worsened after the children’s father left the household, allegedly due to what he described as the woman’s “abnormal behaviour.”
The revelations have sparked serious public health concerns among residents, with many calling for urgent intervention from health authorities and social welfare agencies.
Experts warn that such practices pose significant health risks, including the spread of infectious diseases.
Community members are urging the relevant authorities to step in to assess the situation, provide medical and psychological support if needed, and ensure the safety and well-being of the children involved.
