Amarillo Doesn’t Lose Out on Fresh Vegetables with Colder Weather

· NewsTalk 1290

One of the things we look forward to with the warmer weather in Amarillo is the overabundance of fresh produce. We can get the best corn, zucchini, and any fruit we could possibly imagine.

We have the options of running to one of our grocery stores for produce. We can even visit one of our many farmers market for the freshest in our city. Then the weather gets cooler and those options slow down a bit.

We can still run to our grocery stores but what about all of those locally-grown produce options? Normally we have to wait until the next summer. It's a long wait. We count down until the farmer's markets start popping up around the area again.

Luckily this year we don't have to do that. We have a place to get locally grown produce again. It doesn't matter what the temperatures are outside and that is pretty great. It all starts this weekend.

The Amarillo Winter Farmers Market will be held every Saturday from 7 am until noon. They will be located at 1301 SW 6th in the former IDK Bar and Grill. There will be plenty of hydroponic-grown vegetables. There will be other vendors on hand.

This is a great thing for Amarillo. It's also a great thing for those of us who are used to spending our Saturday mornings out at the various farmer's markets in our area. We can still get up and go on Saturday and come home with fresh produce.

We don't have to worry about what the weather is doing since this all takes place indoors. It's a great change in Amarillo. We are ready for it.
