NS starts reduced timetable during winter holiday period
Rail services across the Netherlands will run on a modified schedule from December 22 through January 2, 2026, due to the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, the Dutch Railways (NS) announced.
On certain routes, fewer trains will operate during morning and evening rush hours starting Thursday. On both Christmas Day and Boxing Day, trains will run according to a Sunday timetable. Regional buses, trams, and metro lines are also following holiday schedules starting Thursday.
On New Year’s Eve, all trains will stop running after 8:00 p.m., except services between Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam Centraal, which will continue until 10:00 p.m.
On New Year’s Day, limited train services will resume at 1:00 a.m., connecting major cities including Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, Leiden, and Amsterdam, with extra stops at Amsterdam Bijlmer and Amsterdam Sloterdijk. Night trains will also operate between Haarlem and Amsterdam, as well as from Amsterdam to Zaandam.
Intercity trains departing from Utrecht Centraal to Eindhoven, Arnhem, and Amersfoort/ Zwolle will start earlier than usual. Early Sprinter services to Schiphol from The Hague, Lelystad, Amersfoort, Alkmaar, and Hoorn are scheduled to operate before 6:00 a.m.
