Bad weather, accidents cause busiest morning rush hour; First snow of the season

Bad weather and many traffic accidents have resulted in the busiest morning rush hour of the year. Traffic peaked just before 8:00 a.m. with nearly 200 jams covering 1,157 kilometers of Dutch roads, a spokesperson for the ANWB told NU.nl. The day will continue to be gray and wet, with the first wet snow of the season falling in the north and east.

Traffic piled up the most between Rotterdam and The Hague and in several places in Noord-Brabant. There was also a long traffic jam on the A16 near Breda due to a truck driving through the crash barrier during the early morning hours.

Before today, the busiest morning rush hour of the year was on October 1, when there were 1,087 kilometers of traffic jams on Dutch roads.

Tuesday will be cloudy and wet, with regular rainfall that may fall as wet snow in Friesland, Groningen, Drenthe, and Overijssel. Afternoon temperatures will vary widely, climbing no higher than 2 or 3 degrees in the north, but reaching up to 12 degrees in Zeeland, according to Weeronline.

The coming days will also be chilly, wet, and stormy, with maximums between 3 and 6 degrees. From the weekend, the weather will gradually transition back to milder weather.
