Temperatures to hit 29°C today as autumn weather takes its time to hit the Netherlands

The last bits of summer are really hanging on in the Netherlands, with September ending in exceptionally hot weather for the time of year. Thermometers could climb to 29 degrees in the southeast today, and up to 27 degrees tomorrow. Cooler weather is expected from Thursday, according to the meteorological institute KNMI and weather service Weeronline.

The sun will increasingly break through the cloud cover as Tuesday morning progresses. No rain is expected, with light to moderate winds from the southeast. Maximums will range between 22 degrees in the northwest and 29 degrees in some places in the southeast. “Exceptionally warm for late September,” the KNMI said.

Wednesday will be largely dry and fairly sunny, with maximums between 22 and 27 degrees and moderate winds from the southeast. Cloud cover will increase from the southwest during the afternoon, and there is a chance of a few showers in the west later in the evening.

“Thursday morning will start with rain, turning dry in the afternoon with possible sunshine in the west,” the KNMI said. The day will be noticeably cooler, with highs of around 19 degrees Celsius.

“From Friday onwards, the weather will be calm and typical of autumn, with a chance of fog during the night and early morning, and sunny spells during the day,” the meteorological institute said. “With maximum temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius, it is quite warm for early October.” Typical maximums for the first ten days of October are around 16 degrees.
