Pakistan believed in peace but won't allow India to weaponise water, says Tarar

ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has rejected India's attempts to weaponise water, saying the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) cannot be unilaterally altered, rescinded, revoked or held in abeyance.

He was speaking at the launch of a special report titled "Weaponising Waters: Historical, Legal, and Strategic Dimensions of IWT Suspension" at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad.

Tarar said Pakistan believed in peace but would not allow India to use water as a weapon.

He said the Court of Arbitration had also upheld Pakistan's position, giving further legal weight to the argument that the treaty's status could not be changed through unilateral action.
